Taiwanese Asian American therapist LMFT LA First- Time- Therapy

Hello!

I’m Josephine Lee

I'm a Taiwanese American who grew up in LA drinking boba and eating hot pot. Feelings and therapy weren’t part of my world. I’ve learned from scratch and now I want to help make that journey a little easier for you.

Sometimes we unknowingly become experts in preserving our battery life from never having learned how to charge it in the first place.

“Battery-preservation” behaviors include- overeating, chronic dieting, binge drinking or using, doomscrolling, excessive shopping, constant problem-solving (whether our own or others!), procrastinating, and endless escaping through social media, gaming, parties, work, or even vacations.

Ineffective coping skills are ones that help us survive- aka preserve what we have left, at best. Effective coping skills are ones that help us grow.

I believe that understanding our individual patterns is essential for simplifying our problems. When we incorporate awareness and insight into patterns of our thought processes, emotions, and behaviors, we utilize our strengths and resources to re-claim our control and freedom.

In our session, we will explore your story using your language. We collaborate to understand the impacts of that story and make necessary changes to cultivate an authentic life based on your individual values. Finding the words to our experiences is often all we need to get started.

I was first introduced to the mental health field in 2011 working as a helpline volunteer. I started practicing as a therapist in 2014 at a treatment center. I have worked with adolescents, adults, couples, families, individuals and groups in partial hospitalizations, intensive outpatient, and outpatient settings.
